What we do for Matariki

I made a poster about Matariki
because Matariki is when family
get together.On Matariki people
weave,fish,harvest crops,remember
their ancestors and for people to
narrate legends.Before dawn people
cook breakfast and go outside to
view the Matariki stars. It is believed
that if we see bright and shining stars,
it is a promise of a good year.Hazy
stars indicate cold

weather and less abundant harvest.Related image

Matarik big book introduction

There are lots of Maori legends
about Matariki.The most famous
story about Matariki is when Maui
the Maori god roped Tama Nui Te
- ra,the sun to slow him down.The
Sun was seriously wounded and tired
of being pulled by the ropes.

He felt miserable and hid away in his cave for several days.
The days grew colder and colder and winter was born.
Plants could not grow and people were sick of the cold.Maui
felt guilty because people were raged and wanted the Sun to
rise back.
